HISTORY

The Brigadeiro begins its story in the 1920's after a renowned Brazilian politician and Air Force brigadier general, Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes gained notoriety for playing a part in squashing a communist coup in Rio de Janeiro. Gomes was a candidate for the Brazilian presidency in 1945.
His admirers organized parties for his political campaign where the chocolate was often featured. As Rio de Janeiro and the Generals popularity grew, so did the chocolate which by now had become know as the "Brigadeiro".
